Well from what I understand, Bale's part wasn't supposed to be so big, but he whined and bitched until they re-wrote it.

Taylor Kitsch's filmography is about to change significantly. He's doing a number of films to highlight his actor instead of his shirtless chest.

I'm holding out hope because he seems like a likable guy.

onestly, I'm convinced Sam Worthington sold his soul to Satan in order to be the lead in the highest grossing film in history. The guy has no talent, he's pretty average looking, and he's always a wet towel when on screen. Seriously, I had never heard of the dude, and suddenly he's listed alongside Christian Bale as the lead in Terminator? As if I was supposed to know who this clown is? Something supernatural had to happen to his career.

"There's a benefit of currently a lot of people in the States not being familiar with him, and so you can really enjoy that performance that much more," Bale said. "He's got so many movies that are going to be coming out, because many other people have realized that he's bloody good."

Christian Bale disagrees with you.

Considering how the movie turned out and the rest of the cast I'd say Bale is the person who's out of place.

Christian Bale has enough respect not to dog his fellow actor, and Avatar was 6 months away from being released. I don't take that quote seriously. He has yet to give me a halfway decent performance. I didn't buy him betraying his race. They should have cast Terry O'Quinn or some legitimately good actor who wasn't supposed to be a hunk of man meat in person.

Maybe so, but I think he put his all into it. His "all" was overpowering and more effort than anyone else put into that piece of shite.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is sort of gearing towards that it seems and is only 23. Kick-arse 2 and Captain America: TWS, with Godzilla coming next month & Avengers: AoU next year.

If this guy is our next major action star, then we may as well give up now. Pack our bags, destroy our nukes, shove a dildo up our own metaphorical asses, and just tell everyone "hey, we're a bunch of flaming pussies".

Superhero movies have taken over the action genre. There aren't as many 80s style action movies anymore.

9/11 killed action movies. Honestly. It's very much related to the "Real American Hero" parody debacle. (Feminism has also helped).

It's the same idea. An over inflated form of masculinity that saves the day with charm, humor, and biceps.

Comic Book movies just filled the natural void that was created by external forces.

Also this thread is crazy with either mentions of people who should be 80's style action heroes (Tom Hardy? Really? I like Tom Hardy, but he takes himself way too seriously.)

quote:

The only one who may come close that's in their 20s in Channing Tatum, which is a pretty sad example compared to what we had in the 80s.

And WTF on this. Tatum is about as close as you're going to get right now to someone worth a damn carrying the torch. If anyone can bring back 80's action movies, it's probably Tatum. He needs a better script than White House Down and he'll be fine.

It's more striking that he's one of the ones who comes closest to them. Hemsworth is the only one I can see becoming legitimate at this point in his career.

I like Tatum, but he's just not on the same action level as Arnold, Sly, or Willis. He could make a good one, but I don't think Tatum is capable of anything iconic for generations to come. As I said, he's the closest we have to them, but I still think is a poor excuse.

How old were Arnold and Sly in the 80s? I'm guessing mid to late 30s. I don't know if I can buy some 25 year old kid as a tough action hero. Another knock against guys like Channing Tatum is that he's too pretty. I think he used to be a model actually. Action stars need to be kinda rough looking.

One name not mentioned yet is Mark Wahlberg. I guess he's mid 40s now but has done some pretty good action movies over his career.

Urban.

And he'll probably be one of the best.

Disagree. I very much think he's a good combo between Arnold and Bruce.

Naaaa.

Paul Walker was on his way. Wahlberg is a good choice too.

JCVD was also a model.

It just depends on the purpose. Norris was supposed to look rough, yes. Not so with Arnold or Van Damme.

I will say this, MMA has ruined the caucasian guy studying the Eastern arts. Any movie based on MMA seriously sucks. Please bring back Ninjas, Kung Fu, and Martial Arts tournaments.
