the statement

unlimited streaming access

along with this only being for older shows, makes me think that it's free for prime users

what about Silicon Valley? I streamed the first two episodes but I cannot find the last one anywhere. I don't get HBO but I really enjoy some of these shows so this excites me

but it's great on my ps3

I have it on the PS3 too and it's far from great. NetFlix's interface is just much more polished. Watching a TV series for example, NetFlix will automatically launch you into the next episode while the credits are running, on Amazon I have to stop the video (or watch all the credits), return to the season screen and manually choose to start the next episode. Finding TV shows in the main interface is also a little clunky because they list each season of a show separately.

The main interface itself needs a lot of help because
1) the categorization is lacking, you have to go multiple levels deep to choose genres, of which you can only see one genre at a time, while NetFlix's main interface is primarily genre based, is easy to skip between genres and you can see multiple genres on the screen at the same time.
2) Amazon clutters up the one category at a time they let you see with the previously mentioned multiple seasons of the same show.

It really wouldn't take that much to fix Amazon's interface, but NetFlix is definitely much easier to use and find things to watch.

Right. When you start the PS3 app they usually show you a new release which is not Prime hoping you'll buy something. There's a tab at the top that lets you see Prime only videos. If you're accessing on the computer, I believe there is a check box in the left column for Prime only.

The FX shows, at least all seasons but the current season, are usually Prime Instant (free) videos. Just FYI...you can get a lot of good shows in that way.

Some movies are also free...for instance, someone said I should watch The Cabin in the Woods so I checked Amazon first and sure enough, it was free and in HD...not bad.

Some of the newer shows listed like Veep and The Newsroom had the "seasons 3 years or older" disclaimer attached. So if this deal is still going in 3 years you might get season 1 of Silicon Valley then.

A lot of cord cutters also claim they'd buy HBO directly if they could. If that is true and they were willing to buy the current season for $3.99 per episode, buying 4-5 series per year would equal an HBO subscription. Maybe down the road buying X number of HBO shows gets you more access to the HBO library, so you'd essentially be paying for HBOGo through Amazon. That would be a back door way for HBO to get money from the cord cutters without selling directly to them and pissing off their cable partners.

Now if we can just come up with a way to pay for only sports channels, I will be set.

Wish Amazon Prime would open up to Chromecast and android devices. I have prime--mainly for shipping--but never watch videos there. Guess Amazon wants me to buy its Fire TV.

prime they keep offering to me at a lower rate so I keep re-upping, but even at a $100 I easily get that back on the 2 day shipping

you will still have to pay for these shows correct?

There would be no reason to make this announcement. As of right now you can go on amazon and buy episodes of Deadwood or Game of Thrones to stream.

my wife and i were looking at this yesterday

we have netflix and hbogo already so other than some tv shows not on netflix there isnt much of a reason to get prime for streaming purposes, but apparently if you've got prime, you can also sign up for "amazon Mom" and get crazy deals on diapers and baby stuff

that alone would save us $10 a month so we're thinking about doing it
