Talking about company matters and asking for advice on disciplining subordinates on a message board
To be fair, I don't think he has said his company name or given any info like that, so I don't see anything wrong with anonymously asking for advice on a public forum like this.

et you're posting details about your employee and her discipline on a public message board, which is just as unprofessional, perhaps moreso because you're a manager.
Where does he work? Who is the employee?
Please, nothing wrong with this at all.

Not really, he would lie about it if confronted, you have already established that it would be ok to do that.

You're ridiculous. Anonymity doesn't preclude unethical behavior. You're just as bad as the next one except no one knows who you are. Have some ethics as a manager and handle this within your company.
You never talk about work situation, without naming names, outside of work?
Unrealistic Standard in my opinion.
That being said, you need to make sure you are smarter than the judge.

Something tells me that she's been down this road before and has been in similar situations that have allowed her to rack up that $1.5 million in the bank.

Sounds like some of that is none of your business. Why not find out why she felt the need to look for another job, rather than catch her in this petty lie? Are you scared that she thinks you're a dick to work for and may tell your supervisor?

No, not at all.
For the record, I went with the advice that 756 recommended.

I'm just seeing this. I confronted my employee a couple months ago. She said yes she did go for an interview. I told her I understand but I need to know whether she is going to leave immenantly. It was for a position out of state.
It didn't hurt out relationship and she is still here.
I also had another employee try to tell me last week he wasn't gonna be able to work to meet a deadline. I set that straight pretty directly. No more problems.

You sound like a busy body. You most likely rose to your position biting other people's backs and kissing arse. You're most likely scared people will do the same to you, so you manipulate situations like this to artificially make yourself look better. If you were worth a shite at your job, why get on the internet seek advice at the risk of embarrassing yourself, the employee, and the company?
The person under the microscope should be you, for this stunt.

So since when is it against company policy to look for employment elsewhere? She lied to you, at best that's insubordination but I would refer to your HR Dept. & policy manual before you do anything. It can come back to bite you in the arse.

It's pretty obvious. You sound tacky, petty, and extremely unprofessional. Eventually, your manipulation will catch up with you.

Have you ever had to discipline any employee for lying to you? When confronted, I asked my employee three times about her seeking employment outside the company. All three times she denied it. She even tried denying it after I presented her with the letter she wrote to the company she is seeking employment from.
sounds like you're looking at a lawsuit. besides, it doesn't appear like she will be there that much longer and your write-up looks like a joke.

Whether or not you or I agree with it, our company has a policy in place that states no employee can use company equipment or property for their personal use. All of our communication systems such as voice mail, e-mail, computers or internet access should be utilized to conduct business only. She was made aware of this policy, as are all of our employees, at the time she receive her new employee orientation packet.
Nonetheless, I went down a different road after reading the comments here and am hopeful that she is fully recommitted to the upcoming tasks at hand.
