What's the boards and NHL's perception of the NY Rangers? Are they kind of the "bad guys" of the NHL. I mean I knew about hockey and teams etc. But the first NHL game I ever attended was the Rangers in MSG over Spring break and it was awesome, so I've found myself rooting for them since them(wouldn't call myself a fan tho) So I was just wondering how they are perceived in the NHL.
And as far as I can remember the first team I ever "liked" was the Colorado Avalanche back when I was a little kid.
ETA: If you could compare them to a current NFL team that'd be pretty helpful.

I'm a Devils fan so I loathe the Rangers. Absolutely hate them since Conference Finals 1994.
I'd compare them to the Cowboys. Sign big name players and always fall short. Annoying fan base.

I was saying the inherent Blues-iness turns everything into a painful loss. That's not mocking, I'm a Caps fan. We're the Eastern Conference version of the Blues. I understand. Something bad will happen, because you're the Blues.
As for the Rangers...
Well, they are coached by Torts who is either the biggest scumbag or most entertaining coach in the league, depending on who you ask (I like him). Lundqvist is one of the most well-liked and respected players in the league. Seriously, try and find someone bad-mouthing him. Given a choice between a large contract for their star forward or defenseman, they chose the blueliner Girardi and shipped Callahan out of town. They are a hard working, gritty, blue collar team that everyone would like if they weren't in f'n NYC. But they are, so screw 'em.
And I miss not getting to say "1940" anymore.
