"going organic" is nothing more than a status symbol?
For the left-wing, self proclaimed intellectuals, environmentalists, it is. They stand out at Whole Foods.

Okay. Let me spell this one out for you. Americans will eat meat, and lots of it. Let's say you outlaw CAFO proteins as you put it. As a result we need a LOT more land for the same amount of production. This effects the economics of land use both domestic and abroad. This displaces other agricultural crops, including staples such as grains, this causing a rise in prices. Ergo, mass third world starvation. You have to look at the big picture when you consider general rules like that....
Just wrong. You know all that land that's currently producing the inferior feed that goes into CAFO's - we could just let cows graze on that land and return it to pasture. Imagine let, letting ruminants eat grass.
Also, if we were to stop producing meat that is fed with govt subsidized feed (grass instead for ruminants), costs would go up, and consumption would decrease accordingly (along with production needs).
It's not that it's impossible, it's that we won't do it. Too much money tied up in the system.
Of course, you can always opt out and buy from local farmers and actually lay eyes on the meat you choose to eat. It's sure worked well for me.
