Is there a category that deserves it?

Use lose a body function IMO. As the other poster mentioned PTSD isn't going away because you get a check in the mail. And enabling them to avoid work situations isn't going to help them recover. But that's just me.
I do wonder why disability is needed so much more now that we have moved from a society that requires physical abilities to earn money and allows you to sit at a computer (or stand). It seems like we're using disability as a civil restitution fee of something wrong with someone vs judging the true ability to get work in the future. Not sure if that was the original intention for it.

Yes... I think so.. but it's hard to determine how much you deserve. And if you were in combat and saw others die who were on your level, and then you turn around and receive benefits while your dead partner's wife receives less or the same it would be very difficult to deal with IMO, and not right at all.

Also, I'M REALLY SORRY if this sounds cold hearted.. I rephrased it about 5 times cause more sympathetic ones didn't make sense or were confusing, also it's just very difficult for someone to see someone die and then take money for their trama about the person dieing while feeling guilt about the one that died.

I hope you feel peace with anything you witnessed and that you can come to terms with what you deserve.
