You're absolutely right. Life is unfair. Now what? Make excuses and complain? Or do the best you can with the cards you've been dealt. What is your solution?

You'd be surprised how far you can go if you just accept responsibility for your own life. Millions of Blacks, Asians, Irish, Jews and many others have found their way out of poverty in this country.

You and I (and everybody else in this country) are standing on top of a mountain of gold. Yes some of us start out with better shovels, but all you have to do is dig.

Beautiful.

It's amazing how much a person can accomplish in life once he stops making excuses and takes responsibility for his own life. Is life unfair sometimes? You bet. So what? Do the best you can with what you have.

I simply ask for white America to acknowledge the crippling legacy of white supremacy that persisted in this "free" country for several centuries. Since you and your ancestors were on the good side of that, you most likely simply have never stopped to consider what it must have been like on the other side of the tracks. I could recommend some very good, very mainstream books on the topic, but I can tell your mind is made up already.

Why don't you go ask native Americans how life was like for them during the American conquest....

Far worse than any one race ever experienced IMO, the Jew's 2nd. Hell, the Chinese probably had it worse as well during World War II..

List goes on.. Since you like to read, do some research before you circle the world around your house.

The real problem in this country has to do with class and the destructive power of capital. But, racism in the USA is the result of capitalism.

Absolutely, we should strive for the ethnic cleansing under Communist regimes like the Khmer Rouge.

But seriously, Pol Pot was a great guy.

This is just idiotic

1)I moved into a neighborhood and all my neighbors have been pleasant.
2) Who cares? Its like expecting to go to korea and see a bunch white dudes on the front page of the newspaper.
3) never had any problem there
4) I see gringos going crazy over latinas like vergara every day
5) fine...but you realize that latin natives were slaves in the spanish colonies, nobody is bitching about all that.
6) I crack the hell up when gringos speak spanish.
7) this is just stupid.
8) people use slurs about hispanics and IDGAF
9) who cares? honestly who the hell cares..and my name is a proper name not some made up name that is purposefully hard to pronounce.
10) I don't even know what to say
11) Very simple way to deal with this and it is to act like a decent human being.
12) I don't even..
and I am not even going to worry about the rest.

Are you sure you want to have such an upbeat positive and productive attitude?
I'm sure big scrub tx can dig up how someone from your ethnicity was enslaved before your grandfather's grandfather was born. And there were also unfair and racist laws well before you or anyone still alive and relative on this planet were around.
shite that happened generations ago still gives you an excuse to be a POS human being while still blaming successful whitey. merica!

Seriously though, there has never been a single moment in my life when I thought to myself "Damn I wish I was white, life would be so much easier!" Idk, maybe I'm missing something, but at the end of the day, no one is in better control of your life than yourself. Point blank period.

With that being said, I'm not going to ignore our nation's past and act like it didn't happen. Just like I wouldn't tell a vet with PTSD or a victim of childhood abuse to "get over it" because it happened years ago, I think blacks do have the right to acknowledge that things were pretty messed up here in America not terribly long ago and not be berated for playing the "victim card." But again, with that being said, what can you do to change the past? Where will resentment and bitterness land you? The best way to overcome past injustices is to grind your F'ing asses off to provide the best opportunity for your kids so that in the future, if an alien crash landed on Earth, it would have no idea that blacks were once at the bottom of the social hierarchy in this country.

things do not happen for random reasons, things that seem like stereotypes are there because they are real.

I think most whites would acknowledge privledge.... If blacks would be willing to come to the table and honestly address the problems in their community.... The thug culture and generational welfare dependence have got to go. These things should be shamed, but they are glorified.

That is just it. It would be like me claiming PTSD because my great grandfather served in WWI. Or how my Irish Great x 3 or 4 grandfather was treated when he arrived as an immigrant. (The Irish were viewed as less valuable than slaves)
Everyone has been a victim of racism at one point or another. Did I get mugged in N.O. For being white in a black area? Yes
As a federal employee being white and male is already two strikes against me. Will I get passed for promotion because a less qualified female or minority wants the job? Yes
Should I just become a worthless employee and blame everything on the system or should I make myself so attractive in my job field that to deny me would be detrimental?
Life is an unfair game. You can win, you can lose but in today's America you can blame no one but yourself for the results.

What makes you think this? How do you know? Less qualified according to whose metric?

I agree with you here. But just like I don't agree with the mindset that being black is a detriment, I don't agree when the same exact mindset is employed by white males (all too common on this board), even if you work for the government.

Colin Powell restored old Volvos as a hobby in his home garage. Wouldn't one think that the province of whites only?

I'll give you a real life example.

About 6-7 years ago my wife was up for a promotion. She works for one of the public school districts here in Los Angeles. The job was to replace her direct superior, who was retiring. My wife was next in line in terms of seniority and was the understudy so-to-speak for this position, so it was assumed in her office that she would get the job, but it's not that easy. The job was posted, she applied, she tested and ranked #1 in the testing. The district superintendent recommended her for the job, based on her test scores, her job performance, and her seniority. The recommendation of the superintendent was taken before the five member school board, which has total sovereignty over this decision. My wife is white. All five school board members are Hispanic. They voted not to accept the superintendent's recommendation and instead gave the job to a Hispanic woman who had less seniority, scored lower on the testing, and did not have the superintendent's recommendation. My wife asked the school board for an explanation and they simply said they were not required to give one. End of story, unless you want to file a lawsuit. So we moved on. Was it fair? Of course not. Was it right? Of course not. But it was what it was. We/she moved on. We made the best of our situation and moved on.

I agree with the poster to whom you responded. These days, when it comes to hiring, admissions, etc. being white and being male are distinct disadvantages. It's just the way things are now and one makes the best of one's situation and does the best one can given one's circumstances.
