Some people in Livingston Parish have questioned why they were mailed a bill for mosquito control, when the parish voted down a tax to continue the program. The director of the abatement program, Jeanine Tessmer, says it's not a new assessment people are getting, but 20,000 people never pail their last bill.

What if half the neighborhood pays?

For $30 a year they did come out about every 2 weeks and spray the neighborhood.

Plenty of things to vote no on with regards to taxes, but this should have passed.

They could spray my neighborhood every morning and evening and it wouldn't help, swamp all around...

They were stupid and made it public knowledge that they couldn't enforce the bills and that they had no legal grounds to collect. That was why they wanted to put it in the propert tax. What did they expect the outcome would be?

I found it humorous when they said out of 40,000 billed, 25,000 have not paid

Yea.. They had a horrible model.

1. Don't make it a property tax to begin with
2. Mail out bills to residents that just move in that gave no idea who this company is or if it's even legit. Who sends a tax bill on property not through the TA office?
3. Realize you fricked up and try to make it legit and tell the public you need to do this because it's super hard to collect on billing..

Are they even spraying this year? So you now expect people to pay a bill and there will not even be a service? Plus you just told the public you won't even pursue the money if it's under 300? Lol. Good luck

I'm pretty sure all they do is spray sugar water. That shite don't work round here at all. Think it makes the Mosquitos worse.

So they can't enforce it? That's great news. I've been here 2 years and haven't paid. I've thought about it, but I think I'll continue to not pay it.

Maybe the yellow fever will wipe out half the population in LP and we'll all be better off.

I think the rejection of this mosquito tax is going to come back and bite LP residents

I pay mine every year. It's $30. Only one less lap dance a year at Illusions.

The bills that they just sent out are for services provided in previous years that have not been paid.

What if you just bought the house and the previous owner never paid it?

I haven't seen them spray yet this year, but we haven't had mosquito problems sent we've been in our house these last few years. I'll continue to pay it as long as I'm seeing limited skeeter activity
