I know it's late in the thread, but I wanted to contribute:
Crazy idea - Live with your parents for a year.
You did it for 18 years. You can do it for one more especially now that you're an adult.
I lived with mine for 10 months after I graduated. Put away $15k. Very nice to have started with that in the bank.

Of course you can.
-get a roommate
-don't go out during the week
-learn how to cook for yourself
-Start drinking craft beer (2-5 a night)
-blow your money on the weekend or save up and travel.

great idea, and it's shocking to me how many people are so against this. There's nothing wrong with living with your parents in your early 20's, save some money and/or pay off some debt. It'll be so beneficial down the road.

Live comfortably on $55,000 per year?
If you can't live comfortably on $55K you are an absolute idiot.

Well, I can think of a few reasons:
1. It's really hard to get laid when you live with your parents.
2. Parents expect a lot in return even if it's not necessarily money
3. They're annoying because they're YOUR PARENTS!!!
Of course, some advantages:
super low cost of living
near constant availability of free home cooked meals
ability to live in a much more expensive home than you could otherwise afford
I've considered doing this, but my parents are absolutely insufferable to live with and I would hate myself and all others.

I'm sorry but I'm not living with my parents unless I absolutely have to. I love them but I like living on my own.

Not everyone works in the same city in which their parents live...

Exactly. I came into the thread expecting people to call the OP dumb for even asking the question, but in typical OT fashion, you leave the thread feeling like you have to live in a cardboard box unless you clear 6 figures.
You can live comfortably and still have some nice things with 55k.

I'm doing this starting in June after I graduate. Plan on putting away 15-20k. Hopefully I can make it through the year.

You must definitely live with other people
I made a little more than that at my first job and was eating ramen and living with two friends. Although, I was still paying my graduate school in cash.
Nope. I grew up poor, am still poor. I just know what to spend money on, where to spend it, and don't blow money recklessly. I don't drink alcohol, or do drugs, or smoke cigarettes. My only vices are milk and music. I have a 2 bedroom apartment that I live in by myself and have paid off all my student loans. Have bought 2 cars, though neither were new, and have never had to ask family or friends for money to get by.
I'm 26 and an artist. I've never expected to make more than 30k or own a house with a yard, though that would be cool I guess, it's not something I need. Now if I ever wanted to start a family 25k would never be enough to fully support them the way they would deserve, but I'm young and not looking for that right now anyway.
TL:DR Living comfortably is what you make it and what you're able to deal without, not how much money you get.

All the best artists drank and/or did drugs so you may want to start!

I lived better single on 55k a month than I do married with kids at 120k. Plus she makes 20k part time to pay for the shite she wants. Enjoy your life while you can young man sooner or later you'll frick it p by getting married and having kids

Most people aren't living comfortably. Whether it's 50k, 100k, or 200k...most will just spend more and live a more extravagant lifestyle.
