Yeah that was pretty much the fuel for the fire. They don't talk about it, but Heysel was a primary motivating factor for their jump to conclusions at Hillsborough. That and the city of Liverpool was a bastion of the labor party and the conservatives would stop at nothing to paint that area in a bad light.

Exactly, and more than only due to Heysel. There was a very strong class slant in the media campaign against hooliganism in those days which was obviously quite political in nature.

Rupert Murdoch owned The Sun as well.
