Well, I have never hooked and fought a Southern Stargazer, but I have captured them while seining and have observed them feeding in captivity.
Consider the fact that they have venomous spines, a specialized organ behind their eyes capable of delivering a 50 volt electric shock, are well camoflouged, and normally lie motionless while waiting to ambush prey.
They are small fish, but if we scaled up a Southern Stargazer to the size of a 500 lb Mako, it would be a very terrifying creature!
I believe Jeremy Wade would shite himself!
ETA: what do i win? the internet?

after further review, I'm crowning the Mako as the champion.
Those things are wicked scary. Most people even after they are dead won't put them in their boats because they can still go crazy after death with nerve impulses.
these other fish you're mentioning don't even have teeeth. and those with teeth I see people holding them in their arms while alive. No one in their right mind would hold a Mako alive, even a small one, 20 pounds unless you wanted your skin thrashed.

True i would think pound for pound a brim would win. can you imagine a 50 lb brim
As far as saltwater fish the Amberjack is the king IMO. A large amberjack on rod n reel will separate the men from the boys.

As much as I hate to downgrade the pulling ability of a large AJ, a Jack Crevelle might could outpull one given both were the same weight but does that make it mean.
A Cypress Trout the same weight as a Mako would wreak havoc on the world.

I like this answer. Amberjack too.
also, in terms of most-lethal, lionfish? I mean if they were any bigger they'd be a real threat to just about anybody/anything
Edit: or the stonefish, which i believe is THE most poisonous

Pound for pound it's hard to argue against a pirhanna.
As far as sharks go, a bull shark is more aggressive than a mako. They've got the highest testosterone levels of any animal on the planet.

I caught a four inch bream on a four inch crankbait. I don't know if he was trying to eat it or rape it.

Barracuda all the way. While there are several fish that fight like heck when they are on the line. The only one that would attack a human is a Cuda. Sharks will typically avoid humans when possible. But if you have on ANYTHING shiny while diving, forget it. The cuda will attack.

Cuda are curious and creepy but they are not the least bit aggressive
Hell they aren't even that much of a fight if you hook one
