Aaron's wrists were actually thicker that Floyd Patterson, heavyweight champion. Aaron played at about 180 lbs. Quick wrists and superior bat speed through the zone.

Well floyd Patterson wasn't that big either

No, not just the bat. Plus, you'd have to be pretty strong (and most likely big) to get a heavy bat around quickly.

Mickey Mantle was no giant, either.

Not accusing Aaron, but corking the bat was prevalent in those days. Players "popping greenies" was also very common. The integrity of the game has been compromised for quite some time.

On point.

There's no doubt in my mind that these guys did something to cut a corner or two.

Since there's alot of Cubs fans here and I know he's a favorite of a couple of people around here.....

Ryne Sandberg hit 40 HR's in 1990. lol Hit 26 the following year. Why the spike? Why the hefty drop the next year?

Sandberg weighed 175 lbs. lol

You don't throw your entire body into swinging a bat.

Have you ever played baseball or even softball?

George Brett hit 30 in 1985, and then 16 in 1986.

Jacoby Elllsbury hit 32 in 2011, has never hit more than 10 any other year in his career.

Roberto Clemente hit 23 in 1961, then hit 10 in 1962.

Johnny Bench hit 40 in 1972, then hit 25 in 1973.

Yep, that's always what Hank attributed his power to.

What Hank & Willie accomplished was amazing considering they played in much bigger ball parks, especially Willie having to play in Candlestick, and the pitching mounds were a lot higher, the difficult racial times they played in along with travel conditions.

If Hank & Willie played in today's baseball, they'd both be better then Miggy & Trout.

And then you have Roger Maris, who hit 39 home runs in 1960, 61 home runs in 1961, and 33 home runs in 1962. Why the spike? Could it be he was just on in '61?

Baseball is a fluky sport. Just because there are major fluctuations here and there doesn't mean you are cheating.

Thats such an easy thing to say you're comparing two GOATS to two really great players who haven't been around long enough.

Aaron batted cross handed as a youngster, which may have contributed to his wrist and forearm strength.
