Yeah it is a messed up situation. I can see both sides. I'm all for small government, but people are getting a bit carried away with thinking that the government just came in and stole this guys land.

They are stealing his cows. To pay off his debt and fees.

He says he doesn't recognize any claim the feds have to it. The grazing rights, just like mineral rights can be severed. His great grandpa made that deal with the state in the 1800's. The Feds created the BLM, and everything was fine when they worked together and took care of the property. It went South when they started using bogus excuses like the turtles to justify reducing the numbers of cattle or just buying people out. It became obvious that the fed govt. was over regulating with the intent to drive these people out of their way of life and seize control of thousands of acres of public property.

Speaking of public property, that's another issue. The feds have put up barracades where state highways enter the property and won't let people access the property.

I can see why he thought he wasn't being dealt with fairly. The feds own most of Nevada, and grazing rights are probably at a premium. He probably relied on those rights to subsist.

The heavy hand of the fed is what most people object to. We've seen it lately here in Alaska. In fact, there are hearings being held about the overreach and militant behavior right now. I'm sympathetic to the guy.

The Bundy's are not claiming the land was theirs. As was mentioned in an above post, the land belongs to the state of Nevada, located in Clark County.

The Bundy family has been working this land since 1877, and paying fees to do so up until the 1990s. The BLM stepped in because of some gophers living there that are on the endangered species list.

Bundy, stopped paying the fees because he discovered that the BLM was using the fees being payed contrary to the original contract. The fees were being used to drive Bundy, and other ranchers off the property.

There is more information developing on this today. Remember, this is state land not Federal.

It seems that one Harry Reid, is involved in getting this land clear of ranchers for the purpose of selling it to the Chinese for development of solar energy farms. As per the Drudge Report.
