Sobering. It's like Russia is taking a page out of Nazi Germany's playbook.
Gorbachev wasn't the bad guy. Their stupid arse system didn't (doesn't) work. It took them 70 years to figure that out, and 25 years to forget what they learned.

Russia's high water mark was under communism, so there's a certain amount of nostalgia about that, but it's only secondary. The real driving force is nationalism/imperialism. If they could find a surviving Romanov somewhere, I'm sure Putin would put him on the throne as a figurehead Tsar.
