I've hunted over some good packs of dogs in my life. Had some good times and killed some good deer. There are still people up in north Washington Parish who run once a year and that fills their freezers for the rest of the year. When I was a kid though, it was different. We never had CBs or mud trucks to tear up land with.
At our place in Alabama, you can see dogs towards the end of January that have been left out in the woods through the whole season. They look so shitty you almost feel like you'd be doing them a favor by shooting them. Seeing stuff like that has turned me off of dog hunting completely. I know plenty people who still do it the right way - the old way - and do not lease from Weyerhaeuser. I'd feel bad for them if they lost that tradition, but they don't have to worry about it (yet). That being said, the modern day idea of dog hunting makes hunters as a whole look bad. Not to mention, it's Weyerhaeuser's land, so it doesn't make much of a difference what anybody thinks about it.
