But is UConn in Tier 1?

Because Kansas and North Carolina are definitely there.

As a lifelong UConn fan, I'd have to say yes.

After my softball game last Monday there was a group of young Afro-American gentlemen walking on the field and one of them said "man this game better be quick so I can go watch us win the National Title" and followed it up with something about his cats.

Apparently this gentleman was a dedicated, lifelong UK fan.

It's stacked by the standards of those who watch the Premier League and recognize the names.

They'll get out of the group stages. I can't see them get much further than that, especially if an underrated Russia team beats them in the group.

Chile is the team that scares Spain and Netherlands in Group B.

Agree. Belgium has some really great talent and there's a good balance across all the positions but some of the hype is that they mainly play in the EPL. If you watch a lot of La Liga and Serie A (and Porto) you see more of the attacking talent Chile, Colombia etc have.

Chile and Colombia seem more the type squads that could easily knock off a Spain or Brazil on golazos a bit out of the run of the play however I question both of their defenses in terms of actually winning it by knocking off 2-3 favorites consecutively.

Colombia and Chile are truly the dark horses in that they are good teams playing in familiar environments.

Everyone is excited about Belgium but a couple of years ago that squad was rife with infighting. Like within this last WC cycle.

This is the most even tournament of our lifetime. The US could do very well in another group, but we got fricked hard in the draw. Which is disappointing because we are a good team.

No one is discrediting Chile or Colombia who are both very good sides. I just think it is almost seen as cool to not be impressed with Belgium since they have been a "dark horse" for a couple years now.

I am a tad skeptical without Falcao. You usually don't just survive losing maybe the world's best striker.

To an extent, but nothing posted in this thread to discredit them has been untrue, and looking at some of the lineups posted, familiarity at least partially drives their hype.

True, but they do have a lot of experienced attacking talent. Carlos Bacca can khs.

ETA: Belgium has already won "best hype video," though

ETA2: I keep on forgetting that Mondragon somehow still plays for Colombia

Still going with Belgium. They're stacked.

Oh, and MURICA

This is the only answer I can come up with.

Belgium has one of the most talented young teams I've seen in a long time. Benteke going down was a shot (to the egos of all FUT BPL cheesers, that is), but I see them going deep into the tournament. Not to mention, I genuinely think Eden Hazard is going to become a special player, and I say that as a man with only disdain for Chelsea. I like watching him play, and this picture's pretty gnarly.

I agree with this completely. I feel like it's one of those freak years in football where everyone's even for the most part, especially with the BPL so far.

Hazard is truly world class. I have a tough time doubting any side he is on. He is the best player I have ever seen live (only been to one Milan-Chelsea friendly though).

This is going to become par for the course. Countries outside of Europe and South America are doing well. I don't know if they will ever compete for a WC, but that deepens the pool that much more.

His only enemy is himself. If he can take it one step at a time and avoid the prima donna shite, he'll be devastating. I like watching him play. He tends to play honest, and the dude's got mountains of talent.

I'm really pleased with this past season, even though United's been a dumpster fire. It gives me a taste of real fandom. I was getting bored with United's constant titles, but I'd be a bigger douche to jump off a bandwagon. I just enjoy watching awesome matches, period.

When everyone's good, it's easier to get someone exposure to the sport that I was drawn to. It's fun to see people get on board and decide that they're Chelsea fans for life, as all of my friends have.

What's with his socks there? Did he rip off the bottoms of his Chelsea socks or something?

Totally true. I had some non soccer fans freaking out about the Mexico friendly, getting super pumped with how we looked in the first half, and then disappointed (obviously) with the second.

Well that's a let down. You need better friends

Apparently, the clubs socks have bad grip because the material is thin and slips. Normal socks tend to have better grip, supposedly. Maybe it's just his lucky socks. I know some of them do that to wear those absurd Trusox (which I've heard were actually incredible).

I've had a deep loathing for Chelsea for many years so it helps keep things fun, both for me and them. It's better than watching their eyes glaze over when I ask them if they want to watch Roma or PSG play, which is disappointing considering Zlatan. If being the token United fan who hates Chelsea keeps it fun for them, I'll take it. I'd rather watch 10 matches with Chelsea scum than drink alone and cry as David Moyes rips up everything I love. I'm about to just say "frick it!" and devote all of my love to Charlton Athletic just to see the world burn!
