quote:
Doesn't Christianity, at its essence, teach that Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, etc. are all going to hell? Along with gays, adulterers, and all the other perverted people out there.
I can't believe this, yet profess to be a Christian, so it's an issue for me to follow the doctrine.
No, Christianity teaches that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. This includes you, me, and every single living human being since the beginning. All sin is equally wretched and intolerable in God's eyes. Thus all people who have ever lived are equally sinful in God's eyes. Hitler & John the Baptists outside the Blood of Christ are both equal in the eyes of God and both equally deserving of Judgement. No matter how "good" you live your life it cannot make up for your sinful nature.
Christianity also teaches that the wages of sin is death. But death is not just the physical body stopping functions and rotting away. Real death is to be cast into Hell for eternity in complete isolation for God. You see God is pure love, compassion, kindness. Only from God can these things come from. Once cast into hell, a damn soul will never experience any of these ever again. Even more so than the flames of the lake of fire, this is the true torment of hell.
Christianity also teaches that through accepting Christ as the risen savior, the Son of God, can you be saved from your sins. This goes back to what I said above about Christ saying "I am the way". Accept him as your savior and repent (BTW, repenting is is more than saying you're sorry for sinning) and you will be saved. It does not matter what your sins have been, all sins are equal in God's eyes. And god knows that as long as you occupy the flesh of your body you will sin again.
That in a nutshell is what Christianity teaches. It teachers that we're all sinners, no one is better or worse in God's eyes. It teaches He loves the drag queen living a hedonistic existence in San Francisco just like he loves the most devout follower of Christ be they Catholic or Protestant. He loves the Islamic Suicide Bomber as much as he loves the innocent babies in the newborn nursery at your local hospital. He even loves the mass murder sitting in prison as much as he loves the Pope. And it teaches we're all equally free to accept his free gift of life through the sacrifice of His Son to pay the price for our sins.
Does it makes sense to the human mind? No, not really. But then again. There is a lot we cannot understand or really even begin to fathom.
