I personally am not a huge fan of the newer ones. Most of them require some very expensive scheduled maintenance around the 100k mile mark.
ETA: I've been looking at a diesel car and I'm not sure I can make myself foot the higher initial cost as well as the higher maintenance costs for a marginal savings in fuel costs over a gas burner.
