What if Washington only got 10% of the tax money the currently got and the rest went to the States? States would be responsible for carrying out federal mandates using their own citizen's tax money.

Would this be an upgrade over the system we have now?

What if all the money that went to the states went to the Fed? Turn it around

No. Federal mandates are blanket programs that ignore local needs.

You would have to eliminate the federal mandates and allow the states to determine how best to spend the revenue.

Ideally we'd all pay less taxes and force the federal government to only spend our dollars on necessities.

Anything that involves my tax dollars going into federal hands is a terrible thing.

I'm all about paying taxes as they are necessary for certain amenities, however we don't need to be paying half of what we pay for what we actually need.

ETA: Why not make the State the top of the pyramid? They can dole out money to the parishes, who then dole out to the cities/towns.

Why even have the federal government in the equation at all? They have proven themselves inept at EVERYTHING they have their hands in.
