Back when it was cool enough they wouldn't spoil I would leave them on Sunday and check on Friday. Last one started stinking so I only set them when I'm going to be around to check to check every 24 hours now. I always thought trapping was something that you needed to be taught hands on but I've had pretty good results by just diving in. Watched a bunch of videos and read some online and went out and put my outdoorsman knowledge to work and have been satisfied with the results.
Check your local laws. There is a trapping season but where I am one can trap on private land anytime.
