It's funny how so many "scouts" here can watch the same video, yet see things completely differently. I think a lot of people went into the spring game critical of Jennings because of the bowl game performance. Thus, they were looking for the "bad" as opposed to the good. Conversely, everybody loves the new recruit who we are told is the next great thing, yet has shown nothing on the field. Those people went into the spring game watching Harris only looking for the good, and ignoring the bad.

I saw two QBs who still need a lot of work and coaching. Yet that should not be unexpected since one is a True Fr. and the other has only 1 college start. They'll both get better with time.

To me Harris looked a bit like JJ in the 2008 Peach Bowl. He had one read and if it wasn't there he tucked it an ran. That could account for the better "pocket presense" noticed by the OP. Harris climbed the pocket well a few times, but seemed to hold onto the ball a bit too long. He certainly has a good arm and quick release. He looked good throwing the crossing routes, but was wildly inconsistent on throwing passes that needed some touch. You can have the greatest arm in the world, but if you can hit your target it doesn't mean a whole lot.

Jennings was up and down as well. However, because he has been in the program for over a year and has started a game at LSU, I think the coaches gave him a little more to handle than Harris. You saw Jennings actually trying to go through some progressions (see the INT to Jones). It's much easier to be "more decisive" when you only have two choices: throw to the primary reciever or take off and run. Jennings struggled some in the pocket, but he also showed some good touch and awareness outside of the pocket. The pass to Stokes down the sideline was beautifully thrown and not easy to execute (rolling to your off-hand and floating a pass over a defender).

It's ridiculous to make definitive statements about who should or shouldn't be the starting QB after watching a glorified practice. Both QBs have ability. Both need more work. Both will improve with more practice.

To me, the most obvious and worrisome fact is that AJ has not progressed at all since Ark. game...in fact, may have regressed...

That's not the main thing that alarms me. What alarms me is as poor as he looks, one can only assume that the coaches think he looks better than Rettig. If that's the case, then we are exceedingly NOT deep at QB at this point.

I don't care who gets the start. I have no personal preference for any of the three. But, I'd like at least two of them to look like they have more ability than Jennings is showing to this point.

Shouldn't you be hoping that A QB steps forward in the next 5-6 months and takes the job?

Yes. I didn't intend to imply I'm on "team" anything. Ideally, one guy steps up and whomever is number two is someone we aren't scared shitless of seeing.

I recall a LSU QB throwing like 5 ints in a spring scrimmage and then going on to have a great season. I also recall a RB gaining over a 100 yds in a SG and winding up 3rd or 4th string to start the Fall.

It's not really the ints that bothered me about Jennings play in the video.

It's like I keep saying. They swarmed all over Jennings last year and thought he had everything (minus the cannon). Now they are doing it to Harris
If you read my OP, I hardly creamed over Harris' performance. I thought they both looked MEH. Harris just seems to have a bit more natural skill but I did point out that he also seemed to have some difficulty hitting the broad side of a barn.
