Interesting, I am generally a fan of their commentators.

I have a number of complaints that are more nitpicky than anything, because their commentators are usually well prepared to do their jobs:

1. Phil Schoen annoys me and is hilariously biased towards Barcelona, which I assume is why the Phil Schoen-Ray Hudson tandem is almost always assigned to Barcelona games. Objectively, I guess he does his job well. Normally, I might think that my dislike of Barcelona clouds my judgment, but Ray Hudson has to pull him back to Earth sometimes. Hilariously over-the-top Ray Hudson has to play the voice of reason.
2. They don't really break up their commentary tandems, so I have to listen to Phil Schoen if I want to listen to Ray Hudson. This is both a positive and a negative.
3. Bodo Illgner can be hypercritical of Real Madrid. I don't know if he's just your average, hypercritical Real Madrid fan or if he over-corrects because he's a former Real Madrid player, but it can get on my nerves.
4. There is some guy who over-enunciates every Spanish name. It bothered me for a while because I thought that he was British. Eventually, I realized that he was a native Spanish speaker. This no longer bothers me.
5. They watch the same feed as the viewer and can end up just as confused as the viewer confusing the viewer when the viewer might not have been confused. This is especially annoying when they only have one commentator assigned to a game, which is understandable because they offer commentary in two languages for virtually every game, and it takes them five minutes to figure out what's going on.

I tend to agree with every on of these complaints with the exception of Phil really being "well prepared"

Unlike a lot of people I actually like Phil Shoen as far as personality but he really just talks out of his arse so much it's ridiculous. Often they're just are pretty questionable opinions but also he gets fairly simple facts totally wrong multiple times a match.

A perfect example is this morning's Cagliari - Roma match where Destro got a hat trick. Phil went on and on for half the match about Destro's "slow start" to the season "where he wasn't clinical enough" that's what is keeping him off pace for the league lead in goals.

Destro was out with an injury until Xmas (half of those matches Schoen himself called) and probably has the best goal per minute ratio on any striker in Europe. That's just one example but every single match he presents as straight fact 4-5 things that are just plain wrong and that it's baffling how he doesn't know or recall.

I will say that it's kind of funny when Ray frustrating corrects him beginning about 20 sentences a match: "I don't know about that Phil".

I tend to forgive Bodo since he says so much unintentionally funny stuff every match but he is pretty critical of Real. I think he's just a huge Real fan that's hypercritical as that's how he come off on the Locker Room as well.

This can be pretty bad. Fox was much worse though about the single match commentators who were so uncomfortable that you suffered for them until lowering the volume.
