Reminds me of a great book. "I'm Down" by Mishna Wolffe. It's her memoirs of being a white girl living with her white dad in an all black neighborhood. Dad wanted to be black. Her mom finally got custody and moved her to a white suburban area and school.
On the first day a white boy made fun of her clothes so she punched him in the nose and drew blood. The kids were horrified. "I guess that was the first time they saw blood."
She was sent to the Principal's office who told her "Mishna, violence doesn't solve anything."
Mishna: "Where I come from violence solves everything."
