I can name dozens of quarterbacks with cannons that weren't good QBs. Likewise, I can name dozens of QBs with mediocre arms that are incredible QBs.

Its great to have, but it does not make a QB great. There is so much to the QB position.

I'm more concerned about whether or not he can throw a finesse pass fifteen yards downfield for a completion. Throwing from your knees in college just means you're already down anyway, won't count no matter how far you chunk it.

I know its early, but from what I saw last week he is no where near ready, physically or mentally. He has all the tools but doesn't know how to use them yet, the safeties read his arse like a book last week. Still the guy is only a few weeks removed from HS.

Don't bring facts to the rant

While it's nice to know he has the arm strength to get the job done, it's the intangibles that make a QB good. Used to I would jump up and down, but after seeing JR and RP, it takes more then just arm strength.

JR was one of the best quarterbacks LSU has ever had. I'd take him every day of the week. Yeah he sucked in the NFL because he got put in a bad situation and got extremely lazy, but that doesn't change what he did at LSU. RP, on the other hand, was just a idiot.

I said his football iq is off the charts. He gets the game and understands what he needs to do at this level. Comparing him from what you see in practice to the real thing isn't fair. Those safeties are overreaching because they know the offense.

You will see him Saturday and believe me when I say he will be our starter next season.

Do we have plays where our qb throws from his knees? No? Well then I could give a rat's arse how far he throws it, all I care about is him hitting open receivers in stride after making the correct calls and reads of the defense.

My best friend threw it 65 yds in high school, guess what, he was our lb'er!

Do you get the point?

Many people cannot look past his pro career and realize he was one of the best qb's in LSU history. They seem to forget just how good he was the year before he went pro.

No, he is correct. JR didn't have immediate success, he was basically Mettenberger with more ability. It took him two years of playing, and 2 first round draft WRs to do what he did in 06. He split time his freshman year and completed only 50% of his passes out of 144 attempts. His sophomore year when he started, he threw more passes that year than JJ did his sophomore year, but had a slightly worst cmp percentage, less TDs, and more INTs.

He had a lil less than 300 yards more passing than JJ, but JJ had 170 yards in the run game while JR was in the negatives. He even had a decent run game to aid him. It's why I laugh at people who would take Mett's 2012 passing season over JJ's and will laugh when someone would take JR's sophomore season over JJ's. Both of those guys had better run games and OL, Russell had Jimbo Fisher as a QB coach, and neither performed statistically better except for more passing yards.
