If you want to do a couple tough hikes, there is the Koko Head trail just past Diamondhead. Makes Diamondhead look like a baby.

There is also the Makapu'u light house hike which is all paved and pretty cool to see some stuff on the island. The drive is pretty intense and you pass Sandy Beach so you could do a few things there. You also pass the blowhole so you could always stop and take a look at that for a bit.

If you are looking for a great hike, try the Ko'olua loa ridge trail. It is about 3-4 hours and a beautiful trail with an amazing view at the end.

If your going to the north shore, check on the Kaena Point Trail on the far northwest side of the island. I've done that trail at least a dozen times and seen monk seals at the end everytime.

I've also gone shark diving a couple times up there. It is pretty awesome and you get to see all sorts of sharks and stuff swimming around. I highly recommend that.

I'm assuming you are staying in Waikiki or near it. I'm a big fan of Hanks Haute Dogs down there. Good stuff. Also, Uncles by the pier has some good food. There are a million good sushi places so make sure to hit up some sushi.

The Lost tour CP3 is talking about was pretty cool even if you don't like lost. They take you up in the Kualoa Ranch. A bunch of other movies and tv shows are filmed there on a pretty regular basis so it is kind of a movie tour.

Waikiki sucks, I hated it but the booze tours that leave around 5 on the Na Hoku II are awesome. Just make sure to sign up early as they do run out of space.

If you want some more advice, hit me up at jscrims@gmail.com. I lived there for 3 years so I do know some of the local stuff to do outside of the tourist crap.

We did this really easy waterfall hike while there as well.

Can't remember the name....just remember we took the bus to this neighborhood near the University and the trail is at the end of the neighborhood. There is a Chinese restaurant right by the trail that bought the Polar Bear cages and the Orchid station from LOST and they have them displayed there(now THAT was cool to see if you are a LOST fan).

OP....we didn't have a rental car the entire time. Parking is like $30-40 a day at many of the hotels so we bought a 4 day bus pass for like $20 and took the buses to many places. Rented a car for our drives to the north shore, Turtle bay, PCC and to Pearl Harbor(the buses actually go there IIRC but we chose to drive).
