At the number 10 pick in the 2012 draft, looking back at it now, I would say that they don't have many players that I would choose over him if we could redraft today. Dell took the best player/highest rated player there. A guy who has known Monty for a long time. He really looks good this year. He works hard and is a really solid backup PG with elite handles and quickness. So here the list of most of the first round. Who would you take over him?

Meyers Leonard-
Jeremy Lamb-
Kendall Marshall-
John Henson-
Maurice Harkless-
Royce White-
Tyler Zeller-
Terrence Jones-
Andrew Nicholson-
Evan Fournier-
Jared Sullinger-
Fab Melo-
John Jenkins-
Jared Cunningham-
Tony Wroten-
Miles Plumlee-

Meyers Leonard- no way
Jeremy Lamb- he is solid, but I still like Rivers better
Kendall Marshall- possible.
John Henson- yes, would be great to spar with Davis, but we still would be really clogged at PF.
Maurice Harkless- tough one. But Ill take Harkless
Royce White- nope
Tyler Zeller- no
Terrence Jones- yes
Andrew Nicholson- no
Evan Fournier- no
Jared Sullinger- yes, but there was no way to know
Fab Melo- no
John Jenkins- no
Jared Cunningham- no
Tony Wroten- ehhh nah
Miles Plumlee- probably would take him now if I had the pick, but there was no way to know at that time

I agree with most of these except Sullinger. He's only going to last so long with his health concerns. We knew Sullinger would be a great player. We just didn't know how long he'd be able to sustain the production. Look at where Blair is now.

I think when the dust has settled and we look back on this draft, out of that list, Rivers will probably end up being the 3rd best player on it outside of Jones/Henson. Plumlee is mostly intriguing because he fixes our problems at the 5 immediately.

Wut?

6'7 wing player that can shoot and put the ball on the deck, in addition to have tremendous potential on the defensive end. But you'd rather Austin Rivers?

In hindsight, Lamb would have been a better choice. Henson and Jones are nice players, but if Monty is serious about getting a Center and keeping Davis at PF, those two wouldn't do us much good at PF. If you can really only find 1 player you would have picked over Rivers 2 years later, then I would say it isn't a bad pick at all.

Maybe Harkless is another you would want, but it doesn't seem like he was ever in the conversation at 10, and he isn't exactly setting the world on fire either. Prior to the draft, out of the players expected to be there at 10 (not counting Lillard or Drummond), I really liked Terrance Ross, but of course the Raptors took him before we could.

Some real busts up in here. Fab Melo's fat arse never had a chance. Leonard was more surprising. Royce White...

People also have to remember it usually takes until mid-late year 2 or year 3(in most cases) for a guard to really get over the hump.

He's averaging 11-3-3 on 46% FG in 23 minutes a game over the past month and has almost never had a game where he looks lost or overwhelmed(like last year)
