Again, I'm saying that Lakers/Celtics series are a special case, more than anything. Not going to get into that here, as I don't have a dog in that particular fight (hell, if anything, I'm more likely to pull for y'all, since you're Western).

This is where I disagree. Yeah, teams blow leads. I don't think that that's just for them to get fricked over because of it. Karmic? Eh, maybe. Playing with fire? Mos def, especially against an iconic franchise like LA. But not just.
