re: MLB Rejects Astros Waiver to have Blackout Lifted

The worst part about the Louisiana blackouts is that SELA is considered a market of both the Rangers and Astros, but, as far as I can remember, there hasn't been a time when both have been offered simultaneously. It used to be FSSW had the Astros, and hardly ever had a Rangers game. Now, the Fox Sports channel has the Rangers, but no Astros.
And to those who don't understand, the MLB blackout rules have to do with making sure the people in the team's market are watching the games on the cable channel and not on their computers through mlb.tv. It's all about advertising dollars.

Act like a franchise? You mean like rebuilding? Which is exactly what they are doing.
i can understand MLB's displeasure with Houston's approach

fricking Scott Feldman got $30 million. Gorge Springer was offered $23 million before even swinging a bat in a major league game.

I'm so incredibly tired of fighting this ignorant argument from uninformed casual fans.
You rebuild through the draft not through stupid arse free agent signings. That's working real damn well for the Angels huh Rouge?
When the astros get the studs in the system up to the majors, they will spend money on free agents. There isn't any reason to right now.

Well see. Ludlow is on the clock this year.

Luhnow has done nothing but impress me.

We could have spent $60 million dollars this year on our payroll and it would not done a damn thing as far as competing. Sure we might get a few more wins but why waste money for nothing. It sucks we are so bad now but we need to develop the core young talent and when they are ready to move to the the majors, spend some money on a few pieces to add around the young guys.

It's a complete disaster. It sucks for Jim Crane. Some people already hate him for whats perceived as him moving the team to the AL when really, Selig strong armed him as a condition of purchase. Then he's blamed for the TV situation which is really more of Drayton McClane's fault than his own. Drayton pretty much fricked us the last several years of his ownership.
Crane came in and listened to the fans and brought the old-school type uniforms back, allowed fans to bring their own food and drinks into the stadium, and upgraded Minute Maid a bit.
He's done some good things.
And he gets blamed for this fiasco.

better players = more competitive = more attendance = blackouts lifted

whoever the frick that is.
Jeff Luhnow, however, has been doing a fantastic job in actually thinking about the future.

They own both. They choose to show the Rangers, so the Astros get left on the shelf. No one else can air the Astros either, since FSNO owns the rights to both...

Ok, so, the issue is still that both the Rangers and Astros are blacked out in Louisiana, but there isn't a television channel that shows all of their games. How someone at MLB doesn't realize this is really beyond my level of comprehension.

quote:Wrong. Comcast Sports Houston owns the TV rights to the Astros in all markets across the US. Problem is the channel has not been picked up by anyone except Comcast and a few small market cable providers. If you want to watch the Astros in LA, you need your cable or satellite providers to pickup the CSNH.

FSSW shows nearly every rangers game and is available in Louisiana.
FSH used to show nearly every Astros game and was available in Louisiana.
the issue is that CSNH, which shows nearly every Astros game, is not available to people without comcast. it isn't on directv, dish, etc, so only comcast subscribers can watch.

plus the games not on FSSW are carried by one of the local DFW channels, which Louisiana doesn't have, which is what I think you were getting at.

quote:It is funny to see how some view Crane here in Houston, it's almost comical. They view him as the devil and as long as he owns the team they will never support them ever again. They blame him for the shitty team he inherited, the fact we are in the AL, the whole CSNH TV debacle. All they see Drayton as is the guy who took us to the World Series Drayton McClain fricked the Astros plain and simple.
