But it isn't just poverty. Poverty is certainly one of the major issues within the larger cultural problem, but saying it is poverty doesn't tell the entire story.

It also isn't race, as race itself doesn't do anything, IMO. It's a culture that is largely uniform within black America, especially within poor black America. I've personally seen affluent black areas, which are pretty rare in the US, go south quickly due to cultural decline. Unfortunately, it prevents black families who do everything right from seeing the benefits of their efforts too often.

To their credit, the black community tends to be united in a way that white people are not. But, this lends itself to a reluctance to purge the negative parts of "black culture" (however you want to define that), as to not break with the community. These are issues white people can't cure, but at the same time, it is dumb to entirely discount the opinions of other races on this subject.

Byproducts of the war on drugs and the war on poverty. Both are failures.
