Is the ground hard enough to hold up the post for 12hours? Concrete loves water so if that's your concern go for it.
eta: the above is all I've ever done. Put a little soap in the hole and the dry mix will suck the water right up.

Yes. I'm going to have to remove some of the water though. It's a 2 foot hole full of water.
