What I don't get, is why do they not want the warranty work? The manufacturer pays them well and they act like they will be taking a loss for doing it.



Take a look at most chrysler manuals. They say 1qt per 1k is okay, just so they dont have to do shite

GM is the same way now after the 5.3 trouble. Thats a joke, they also recommend like 5 to 7 k miles between changes. By that reasoning you will have 1 or less quarts left at oil changes.
