Prescriptive periods are pretty easy calls in a case like this.

I haven't been keeping up. Is there another article that actually reports on the issue?

Yea, but writ denials don't let you know the basis for turning it down. Writ denials aren't supposed to be a mechanism to show the lower court "got it right."
