The table shows the results of a test done by PC Magazine. Some of the vendor's offer free service and some do not. Any OT'ers use any of of these free services or have a recommendation. I'm leaning AVG.

How can something have 5 stars for protection but 1 star for performance? There's not much else I want my antivirus to perform

Malwarebytes Pro is $25 for a LIFETIME license. I don't know why one wouldn't purchase that.

Couple that with PeerBlock and you're gold. I used to also use MSSE on Win 7, but that's pretty much become Windows Defender on Win 8.

I haven't had an antivirus program in six years, and I have never gotten a virus. Virus protection is a scam.

I just use MSSE and MalwareBytes. Occasionally, I'll run Spybot Search&Destroy. Been using the combination for the 5 years I've had this laptop and haven't had a problem yet.
