Agreed on can we get more music within the past 20 years? Hate other bands coming in and playing more entertaining shows. And half the time it is only because the songs are recognizable.

Dr. Moorehouse is now Acting Director of Bands at University of Illinois.

She's still great looking:

Following is the email she sent when she left:

Subject: Next Year

Dear all:
It is with heavy heart that I announce to you my decision to leave LSU for the University of Illinois beginning this fall. As many of you may know I have been associated with the LSU Band program since the fall of 1984 when I served as a Graduate Assistant, and then was hired onto the faculty the next year in the fall of 1985. For the last 25 years, my energies and priorities have been dedicated to the LSU Band program. The decision to leave was prompted by (1) an unsolicited and unexpected offer to join the UI band division two weeks ago, and (2) the realization of my situation here at LSU.

Most of you know we had a difficult time finding a replacement for Frank’s position last year (the search will continue this year). The announcement of “Director of Tiger Band” made this past spring was done to help alleviate fears of “change.” As it turns out, the title change does not enhance my position at LSU, nor does the offer from Illinois. The UI band program is the oldest program in the country with an unparalleled history, and the UI School of Music is very respected. I am being hired for my artistic skills as a conductor and teacher, and will not have any responsibilities with their marching band. I will conduct the UI Wind Orchestra (there are six concert ensembles) and teach conducting. The UI Band Division has been in transition since the retirement of their Director of Bands two years ago. Last year they hired a new Director of Bands, who is the person who contacted me about the job two weeks ago. I am flattered and excited they want me as an integral part of their future.
I will always hold a special place in my heart for LSU, and especially you, the students. You are the reason the program is what it is, and I know you will continue to support Roy and the Band Department this next year. Please know I am a better person and teacher having worked with you…I will miss you and the program immensely.

All my best –

Dr. M
