I'm sure they probably could. However, they are probably aware that they would be wiped out in any firefight.
I can't even imagine how tense and crappy it is to be a Ukrainian soldier in Crimea right now.

With what? they gave up their army on a promise from the US and Britain. Let this stand as a glaring example that demilitarization is NEVER the answer.
