Seriously, let me ask you this. What is their to gain for Russia to piss off the EU and the US.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that this world, and the world in 1930s pre-WWII are vastly different. We are so globally connected that it makes no sense to ostracize yourself.

We have a problem of credibility. We supported the ousting of the "democratically" elected leader of Ukraine by the people and yet we condemn the vote by the Crimea to join Russia as illegal. Putin loses the moral upper hand by putting Russian troops in the Crimea, but all indications are they are more than happy to break away from the Ukraine. And no, we aren’t going to war over the Crimea.
