Continue to reaccess the evolution of education in La. In the 60's, La public education was damn good (depending on the school of course). By the time my kids reached the school age in the 80's, would not for a moment consider public education. If memory serves, paid about $7500 for a first grader & kindergarten in a middle of the road private school.
Moved to Texas & public ed was superb. Property taxes were through the roof, but ended up on the plus side in a big way. Returned to New Orleans after a 25 year exile in Texas about 2 years ago. I have been pretty impressed with some of the charter schools. IMO, I would look at these before committing to a private school. So glad that is all behind me. Best of luck to all, it's a huge decision for their future & your current lifestyle.
