I actually hope that Putin as a former member of the communist party does well and takes control over Ukraine. It doesn't have to be like total control but make Ukraine a client state or puppet state.

I agree that the former USSR with the exception of the Baltics--since they were invaded in 1940 and independent from 1917 to 1940--should be under a Russian sphere of influence. There is no reason for Russia and the US to be enemies. I mean who really gives a shite about Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan etc.

by that logic, i assume you wouldn't mind the russians rolling into poland and taking over.

I wrote that he should have influence over the former USSR with the exception of the Baltics. Poland is in NATO. Putin won't invade a NATO country. We have a deal with Russia that goes back to Bush I. No former part of the USSR with the exception of the Baltics will ever be in NATO.

If he wants to push around Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan and others it's no big deal to us. Name one strategic interest we have in Ukraine? We have a NATO ally in Turkey to keep the Russia black sea fleet contained.
