My grandmother made it with rat cheese or hoop cheese, my mother made it with medium cheddar and my wife makes it with a block of American cheese. I eat all three.

Whole Foods has a good spicy one with jalapeños. I also grew up eating them from Joe D's when they cost $.50 and I would eat their egg salad sandwiches on Friday which cost the same.

Wife and mother make it about once a month. They also make canned tuna fish about once a month which is a whole other discussion. I love that too.
