Caught a few mahi along a weed line a few summers ago with an 8 wt. I needed a heavier rod though. Didn't know I was going offshore so I didn't have a sinking line, heavier rod or bigger flies with me. I caught the fish on size 2 Clousers. Without a sinking line, I couldn't get the fly down to the bigger mahi.

I am surprised that there is not a boutique guide service that focuses on fly fishing the gulf for near and offshore fish including the big pelagics.

I guess the market is not large enough or sustainable.
