Pretty common with the amount of waders in SE TX. Pain can be intense. Saw a guy almost not make it to his boat after getting popped a few years back and he was only about 20 yards from it.

If you get hit, get as scalding hot water as you can stand on it ASAP. This will kill the pain. The pizz stream from your motor works well. After that, haul arse to the hospital and pray you don't have to drive yourself.

My brother got popped in the ankle a few years back. We were a few miles out, so we had to get back to the vehicle and drive about 20 miles to the nearest hospital.

He said it felt like his ankle was hit with a sledge hammer and set on fire at the same time. It swole up pretty bad and it was obviously very painful from his reactions.
