I'm not understanding why OP what's the roofing company to inspect the roof.
An adjuster will determine what needs replacing but they absolutely have to provide sufficient evidence before the insurance company pays out. The adjuster makes a little but even when the claim is denied so they should have no bias. I'm sure there are some bad apples out there, though.

I'd rather just get the opinion of a respected roofer first. I don't doubt you're right in that a lot of roofers will probably be biased in their assessment but I'd rather not file a claim without at least getting their opinion first. The more information I have, the better. How does that not make sense to you?

Because having claims on your policy is bad. A good roofer will tell you if you have damage that should warrant replacement, borderline damage or little to no damage. Roofers don't want to have to meet with adjusters when there is not damage when they could speed their time at homes with damage where they will get paid...
