Why not? It has no meaning. It's like the phrase "common sense gun laws". Common sense is not a bright line demarcation. It has no meaning. I could say that "common sense gun laws" = confiscation of all fire arms, knives and pieces of pipe that could be made into zip guns, shards of tin, etc.

Commmon usage is battle rifle (M1 Garand/M14/FAL) --> assault rifle (M16/M4/AR/AK) --> submachine gun (MP5, Uzi)
