We really need a good 2000-5000 capacity indoor theater.

River Center Theater seats about 2000.

I think "great tours" skip Baton Rouge because Baton Rouge sucks. I STILL don't think we've gotten past the AC/DC concert/Ozzy Osbourne death threat controversies from the 1980s. The reputation of BR being a one horse Bible thumping town has not left us for the most part.

If not for the internet and direct emails from Ticketmaster, I'd never know who was playing in Baton Rouge because there is virtually no TV/Radio advertising for upcoming acts. For example, one of the nation's premier female jazz vocalists, Jane Monheit, didn't sell 600 seats (2 shows) at the Shaw Center because there was absolutely NO advertising. I doubt she ever comes back.

A "proper" indoor theater, like the Verizon Center near Dallas (where Diana Krall sold out 6300 seats) would sit idle in Baton Rouge.

I mean one without seats. Or at least removable seats.

Baton Rouge doesn't suck but I'm sure there's no changing your mind on that. In the past 3 years national tours are hitting Baton Rouge.

Say what you want, but there's a reason why bayou country super fest does so well.

I see billboards all the time for touring acts coming to the river center. You're blaming the city of Baton Rouge for this but your beef is with the river center itself.

Ok? And? Jazz vocalists in 2014 don't have mainstream mass appeal. That's a very niche crowd.

If you build it, they will come. That's pretty much the idea.

An outdoor amphitheater on the river or something would do very well and would attract the bigger acts to BR.
