They were protecting it from an attack by the entire rebel fleet so they used endor which consisted of a population of ewoks to house their field generator.

Luke gave himself up so the mission on endor could be completed plus he wanted to save his dad.

The original Death Star was fully functional but as we all saw it was vulnerable to attack by smaller ships.

The real question that has to be asked is how did the emperior not see the deception by vadar.

This. The emperor just allows Vader to slowly pick him up and drop him down a hole. Seems weird.

As far as we know, no one has ever turned their back on The Dark Side of The Force once they had embraced it (especially for so long). Combine that with his own ego (what I can only surmise was) having been constantly fed by no one telling him "no" or that he was wrong in all the decades since he brought down the Republic and set himself up as a ruthless dictator.

I don't think Vader was deceiving the emperor. It wasn't until Vader realized that Luke was right about him after the Vader Luke fight that he decided to take out the Emperor. Plus the emperor's plan was to have Luke kill Vader anyways, so even if he did think Vader was deceiving him he probably didn't care.
