I don't see any tanks in this photo, do you?
I don't see any Mig's either, but I would guess they would use them if they feel it's necessary.

This ultimatim is similar to the one W gave to Saddam in 2003 a couple of days before the war. It's funny how back then folks said Saddam should accept it, but today they're saying Ukraine shouldn't accept it.
I didn't know that Russia was demanding that Ukraine allow UN inspectors into the country. Tell me more.

I can't believe people are actually saying Ukraine should just roll over because they don't stand a chance.
They have 2 options IMO.
1. Draw a line in the sand at the little strip of land separating Crimea from the rest of Ukraine. No Russian troops can pass. The world will accept that and come to their aid if Russia trys to advance.
2. Act now. And act decisively. The still have enough forces to oust the Russian troops from Crimea. Kick the out and force Russia to conduct a full scale invasion of it's neighbor if they really want it. The world may or may not support them if they choose this option.
What they can't do is do nothing. If they do nothing all of southeastern Ukraine will fall to Russia and possibly more.

They have to wait until the Russians fire the first shot.
And they will.
Once that happens it's game on and things will get messy fast.

if someone invaded the US would you expect us to just surrender even if the odds weren't good? No we'd absolutely fight for our homeland.

Yeah, that's why I put it as option 2. Best case for Ukraine is they goad Russia into looking the aggressor.

Why?

I think they stand a lot better chance of receiving international support if Russia fires first.

So as long as Russia doesn't fire first they can take over the entire country and no one is the Ukraine should/would do anything?
fricking stupid...

After which there will be little left of the Ukrainian armed forces. Russia won't go in with a pitty-pat assault. It will come in a massive wave.
Then it will be all over and Russia hunkers down waiting for the diplomatic storm to blow over. And it will soon enough.

Actually, there is a precedent for this. In WWII, Denmark surrendered to Germany without firing a shot.
Also, remember Desert Storm back in 1991? Those poor Iraqi soldiers didn't want any part of Saddam's war and they were literally surrendering by the ten of thousands. Instead of storming across the battelfield with AK-47's and hand grenades, they stormed across the battlefield with white flags. According to Norman Schwarzkopf, when they finally got around to negotiating the cease fire, the Iraqi generals were shocked when he told them how many POW's they had.

Hmmm, I wonder what the majority of the population in Crimea thinks.
There were a bunch of them on the streets waving Russian flags today and saying it was a good thing that the Russians had come.
Personally, I don't give a frick one way or the other.
