The tyranny and Gov't intrusion into business and our personal lives continues. Thanks Obama, you know what's best for me and our children even better than us

Say Goodbye to Coca Cola ads on football scoreboards and such.

quote:

The rules would phase out the advertising of sugary drinks and junk foods around campuses and ensure that other promotions in schools are in line with health standards that apply to school foods. The rules are expected to be announced Tuesday as a part of first lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative to fight child obesity.
“If you can’t sell it, you really ought not be able to market it,” said Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack.
But Secretary Vilsack admits it’s big business. He says companies spend almost $150-million dollars a year on marketing in schools. The changes would remove popular drink ads seen from school scoreboards and vending machines.

I don't agree one bit with the federal government getting involved in this but WTF are junk food ads doing in school? My kids go to public schools here in GA and there are no junk food or junk food ads in their schools.

Most schools couldn't even afford to have a scoreboard without coke

That's what happens when you elect a true believer in central planning; you get your lives centrally planned for you.

You deserve it, America. Smoke the whole pack.

Ummmm, I don't recall the First Lady receiving a single vote from any citizen. How in the hell can she simply decree that anything be done?

Screw her. I hope some schools have double-sized ads on their scoreboards next fall just to thumb their noses at her and her kind.

What's next? No Cokes at the concession stand unless you're over 18? No more Sugar Babies, M&Ms and other candy at the game?

"Hey guys, I'm going to the concession stand. Anybody else want a Nature Valley granola bar and some refreshing mineral water?"

Yeah let's focus on advertisers and not the fact a large portion in the school can't read the dam promotions.

You got to be kidding me.

Progressives are only pro choice on issues they like. Pro choice on abortion but not on your right to a fire arm or right to buy or consume certain foods.

Considering about 20% of Americans ages 6-19 are obese and that sugary drinks are a major contributing factor, if no the main factor, in childhood obesity I'd say this is a wise move.

Interestingly a new report from the Fed, headed up by the CDC, has reported a 43% decline in childhood obesity over the last decade.

Can you please tell me why there should be junk food ads in schools?

Schools should not be condoning such irresponsible behavior. All these little fat-arse kids get enough exposure to junk foods from their fat-arse parents.

And yet you can buy all the fatty, sugary, nonessential food your heart desires with government-issued food stamps.
