Fortunately, stupidity does not constitute actionable damages.
For better or worse, these folks will get something out of this, though. However, nobody will get $1 million, or anything close to that.

I seem to recall on other ones where this has happened, the passenger contract has some statement about "if something like this happens, Carnival is not responsible" or something like that.
Usually what happens is they refund the cruise/air/hotel fees and give them a bit of money, but not a lot. Nor should they really.
