A winter annual, henbit has green oval leaves and purple flowers that bloom in spring, giving the plant a chance to self-sow before dying in the summer. This is an opportunistic weed that takes advantage of thin or bare spots in your lawn to establish itself. Therefore, the first step you need to take to kill henbit is to give your grass the care it requires to grow strong and capable of overpowering this and other weeds. Henbit also invades garden beds. If cultural controls don't eliminate it, herbicides are your next option. LINK
