I know of a decent number of kids who attend either Dunham, U-High, or Episcopal who are going to Alabama. I am friends with a wealthy guy who has sent all 3 of his kids to Alabama. What's up with that? Is going to Alabama the "frat" thing to do these days if you are from BR and you have money?

Also, Ole Miss seems to be a destination for BR money kids as well.

The same could be asked about Houston area kids going to LSU.

Some Wealthy kids look down on lsu, mostly since it's so close by it's not special. Ole Miss is a great place for wealthy kids and Alabama has an insane greek system and it's a not so subtle act of rebellion. If they grew up in tuscaloosa, they'd be going to lsu to get away.

It was pretty prevalent in Georgia too. Usually were kids who didn't get into UGA, but some people I think went there as a first choice. My sister was big into sorority stuff at UGA and she says a lot of girls go out of state because it's easier for them to get a bid at a top sorority out of state versus getting one at Georgia where they are competing with thousands of girls just like them.

ETA: Nothing pisses me off more than people who went to Bama or Auburn because Georgia denied them and then they won't shut the frick up about how much better their football team is.

Probably want to go somewhere other than where 50+% of their high school class goes, which will be LSU, La-Tech, or ULL.

University of Texas and Tulane were those schools for my high school class. Some of my Baton Rouge cousins went to Auburn I think. My brother went to A&M.

I imagine UGA, LSU, and Ole Miss get a lot of interest from kids in the Birmingham and Tuscaloosa area that want to branch out.

It's away from home. That's why I chose LSU, to GTFO of Florida.

Some parents want their kids to get out of their home city/state and experience something else. They want the kid to get out of his/her comfort zone and grow a little.

Want to get away from Baton Rouge and aren't handcuffed by tuition prices?

I went to Episcopal and then Ole Miss FWIW. I loved every minute of it. Baton Rouge blows.

This and Ole Miss is puzzling. Vanderbilt I understand, but Bama and the Old Mrs. I don't quite understand. What's the draw? Is there some kind of cultural experience I should be aware of that's different from LSU? Is it the way Old Mrs. Kids hold their pinky out when drinking beer, or maybe the manner in which Roll Tide slides off the tongue after some beer and BBQ? I have to imagine this is much more about standing out and getting attention, because they know that's what will get everyone's attention due to Ole Miss and Bama being LSU's chief rivals, and how people here feel about them.

They couldn't get into McNeese, so this is the obvious second choice

90% of them end up transferring back to BRCC when they do a ton of coke and fail out of bama.

I went to a BR high school then LSU. 80 % of my class went to LSU. Looking back , it was a mistake and I should've tried to go somewhere else. A small private school like Hendrix or Tulane. I wouldn't go to Alabama or UGA though
